Halloween is fast approaching, and the days of throwing a sheet over our heads and poking out eye holes are long gone. Now, thanks to the amount of Halloween hair and makeup tutorials online, there’s no excuse to not have a head-turning costume. We’ve scoured the web for the creepiest, funniest and all-round best Halloween tutorials for 2016. Below are our favourites – and the good news is, you don’t need to be a pro at makeup to get the looks.
Double Vision Makeup Tutorial – Roxxsaurus
This look definitely puts the ‘trick’ in ‘trick or treat’. Using only products that she already has in her makeup bag, British YouTuber Roxi shows us how to draw on imitation eyes, lips and a nose to create this trippy makeup effect. You do need a certain amount of artistic flair to make it look lifelike, but after a few trial runs we’re sure you’ll nail this look that’s super creepy, without the gore.
Mermaid Makeup Tutorial – As Told By Ginger
Mermaids have been everywhere this year, so keep your 2016 costume bang on trend with this surprisingly easy mermaid makeup tutorial. The scales are created with fishnet tights (what else?!), while affordable gems add the crustacean vibe. We love the holographic effect of the lilac and aqua used by Ginger, but if you wanted to increase the scare factor then black and red glitters would work too.
Snapchat Filter Costume Tutorial – Mayra Touch Of Glam
If you’re addicted to Snapchat, then you’ll love these filter-inspired Halloween costumes. Beauty guru Mayra creates not one but five of our favourite looks from the app – the flower headband, deer filter, that gold butterfly, the dog filter and even the bread face can all be yours with just a few props and makeup tricks.
Unicorn Hair Tutorial – Princess Hairstyles
On Halloween, hair is normally an afterthought and ends up splattered in blood or covered in cobwebs. With this cute tutorial though, your hair will become the main talking point as it’s transformed into a majestic unicorn horn. It’s actually easier than it looks, as the horn itself is fashioned from card – but of course we won’t tell anyone that.
Harley Quinn Makeup Tutorial – Dope211
Harley Quinn is set to be one of the most popular Halloween costumes this year, but the below tutorial will guarantee that your costume’s the most authentic. Recreating the Suicide Squad character’s makeup is actually quite straightforward, with a bold red lip and smeared eyeshadows being the main components. YouTuber Promise Phan uses a wig for Harley Quinn’s trademark coloured pigtails, but if you’re already blonde then Fudge Paintbox semi-permanent hair colours in Blue Velvet and Red Corvette will be easier for you.
