She’s known for her power brows, party girl antics and #squadgoals gang of BFFs – but one thing we think needs more kudos is Cara Delevingne’s seriously gorgeous head of hair. The model-turned-actress has carved out her own signature style over the years, but her locks are something she’s been a lot more experimental with. As it’s Throwback Thursday, we take a look back on Cara’s hair transformation, from Californian-style golden hair to that lob and everything in between.
Having just signed with Storm model management, 17-year-old Cara was giving off strong girl-next-door vibes back in 2008. A simple, straightened style and sunkissed golden highlights gave her commercial appeal, while those bold brows hinted at the edginess we’d soon see from the model.
A year later, Cara’s grungy style started to emerge as she embraced strong eye makeup and a cool-toned blonde. Love this shade? Make sure you stock up on a silver shampoo such as Designline’s Silver Shampoo to keep brassy tones at bay.
2011 saw Cara tone down her look with an all-over caramel shade. The super-sleek style was also left behind, and she started to rock a grungier, lived-in texture. We bet a product like Fudge’s Salt Spray would have been kept on hand during this phase.
Snapped here on the Mulberry runway, Cara was all about natural beauty in 2013. Her hair grew out into a natural bronde shade, but she swapped the centre parting for an extreme side sweep, giving her style some shape while still being low-maintenance.
In one of the boldest hair changes of her career (so far!), Cara took the plunge in 2014 and dyed her hair a rich auburn-toned brunette. Adding instant shine and making those blue eyes pop, what’s not to love about this shade?! If you’re thinking of a drastic colour change, pop in to talk to your local Supercuts stylist.
Maybe blondes have more fun, as the following year the model abandoned the brunette life and was back to her more natural bronde shade. While she played with sleek styles and up-dos on the red carpet, in her downtime Cara usually wore her hair undone and tousled. Her ‘morning after the party’ vibes were probably 100% authentic, but to recreate this second-day look (without staying up all night), rough dry hair and rub some Designline Pliable Clay through the ends for definition.
With a huge role in the box office smash Suicide Squad, Cara seemed to embrace a more sophisticated look last year when she went for the must-have style of 2016, the lob. With a collarbone-skimming length that we all lusted after, she showed that she could be just as versatile with a shorter length too. From beachy waves to the super-groomed style we see below, Ms Delevingne proved there are so many ways to wear this length.
Experimenting with length and colour while always staying true to her edgy style, Cara’s emerged as one of our favourite hair icons of recent years. As her career continues to grow and more acting jobs roll in, we can’t wait to see what she shows off next.
