Once upon a time, it was just the Kardashians we had to keep up with. Now, the famous sisters change up their looks so often that it’s their hair we have to keep the closest eye on. From Khloe’s lob to Kendall and Kylie’s Coachella style, we’re always kept captivated by what the girls are doing to their locks next – but the Kardashian that still commands the most attention when she has a hair change is Kim.
Mrs Kardashian West has come a long way since her days as an LA socialite and appearances as Paris Hilton’s BFF on The Simple Life. Now the owner of a business empire, gracing magazine covers from Vogue to Forbes, Kim has carved herself a reputation as one of the most stylish women on the planet. When shes reaches for the peroxide, the world takes notice. The last few years have seen Kim K get a lot more experimental with her hair, and we’re taking a look back at the hair history of our favourite reality mogul.
Kim Kardashian Hair History: 2006
A year before Keeping Up With the Kardashians aired and when she was more well-known for partying with Paris, Kim sported the long, dark hair that was to become part of her trademark look. A side parting and plenty of volume at the root was no doubt on-trend at the time, but is a far cry from the sleeker Kim we’re used to seeing these days.
Kim Kardashian Hair History: 2008
As she transformed into a household name, Kim’s look became more premium. Swapping the curling tongs for the hair straightener, she added a a long fringe for a more sophisticated edge.
Kim Kardashian Hair History: 2010
Kim has largely been credited with being behind this summer’s craze for braided hair, but her 2010 cornrows didn’t have the same effect. More Monica in Friends than Vogue cover star, it was a short-lived look (something we’re all very grateful for).
Kim Kardashian Hair History: 2011
Throughout 2011-2012, Kim was rarely seen looking anything less than 100% glamorous. Strong eye makeup, a deep tan and impossibly glossy hair was the signature Kardashian look. It certainly worked, but clearly Kim was looking to shake up her look.
Kim Kardashian Hair History: 2013
Kim fans saw a definite shift in the reality star’s style when she began dating Kanye West in 2012, and this hair transformation was one of the biggest changes she had made to her appearance in recent years. Ditching several inches in length and lightening her hair to a caramel bronde, Kim looked more sophisticated and very on-trend. With darker roots and long layers, it was also a more low-maintenance look that suited the mum-to-be.
Kim Kardashian Hair History: 2014
Continuing to embrace a more natural hair look, Kim attended the VMAs in 2014 with loose waves through her mid-lenght locks. She was back to dark, but warm balayage kept movement and volume in the style.
Kim Kardashian Hair History: 2015
She had already ‘broke the internet’ the year before with that champagne bottle shoot with Paper magazine, but Kim came close to doing it again in February 2015 when she debuted a shorter, freshly-bleached hairstyle. Some loved it, some hated it – but it didn’t really matter, as Kim revealed she had done it solely for Paris Fashion Week and returned to her darker roots soon after. We’ve seen her bright blonde since then, but nowadays she tends to rely on wigs over peroxide.
Kim Kardashian Hair History: 2015
Later in the year, Kim was back to her trademark look, but was continuing to create new hair trends almost overnight. The slick-back style became practically iconic in 2015, with most of the Kardashian girls rocking the look at least once. A way to wear hair down without distracting from an outfit, it was a look we saw Kim with again and again.
Kim Kardashian Hair History: 2016
Having become a mother for the second time with Saint West, Kim embraced a sophisticated but effortlessly cool in 2o16 with this asymmetric long bob. With a gorgeous ombre, this is one of our favourite Kim K hairstyles to date – but of course, we know better than to get too attached to it!
