Claws Out: Summer 2016 Nail Colour Trends

If you’re stocking up on fringing and bardot tops to update your wardrobe for the new season, then don’t forget your nails are in need of a freshening up too. The SS16 catwalks always bring us plenty of beauty trends, and we’ve picked out our favourite nail colours for the season. It’s time to pack away the vampy reds of the colder months and fully embrace the key nail trends for this summer.

Baby Pink & Blue

Pastels always make a reappearance during summer, and one of this season’s key nail trends is the sugary sweet combination of pastel pink (think OPI’s Coney Island Cotton Candy) and baby blue. Wearing just one of these looks will tick the trend, but why not wear them together for double impact? Paint the shades on alternating fingers, or create a DIY ombre effect.

#SupercutsTip: You can create an ombre effect on your nails at home by using a sponge. Paint your nails with your base colour, and once dry use a small sponge as a stamp to press the secondary colour onto your nail!

Mellow Yellow

No colour screams summer more than sunshine yellow, but for your nails you don’t want a look that’s too brash. To avoid this, choose your shade carefully.  A pale lemon or a creamy shade like Sand In My Shoe by OPI will give a beautiful nod to the trend, and instantly perk up your look.

Bright Pinks

Summer is all about bright looks, so leave the dusky pinks for autumn and embrace a bolder colour. OPI’s Strawberry Margarita is a red-pink that packs a punch, while Suzi Has a Swede Tooth is more of a blue-toned pink that can be worn day and night. Whether your pink is neon, raspberry or fuchsia, make sure there’s a high gloss finish for extra pop.

Coral has always been a summer holiday favourite, but after appearing on Stella Jean’s SS16 catwalks, it now has serious style kudos too. This shade looks stunning with a tan, and a matte finish will bring the colour bang up to date.

#SupercutsTip: When using bold nail polishes, choose a nail polish remover with mild acetone to full remove the polish and prevent nails staining. We recommend the OPI Polish Remover.

Oh yes, it’s not just for drinking. If you go metallic this year, then choose a pale gold, champagne colour with a pearlescent finish. This look is a bit more sophisticated than a bold glitter effect, but just as glamorous.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this post and have a bit of inspo for your summer nails! For more information on the latest beauty trends, you can follow us on Twitter @SupercutsUK.
