Hair Trends 2012

Is your New Year’s resolution to be more stylish? If so, we have just the thing for you. We’ve compiled a list of the must-have looks for 2012.

Taking inspiration from past styles, this year it’s all about adding class, elegance and glamour into the iconic styles of yesteryear.

Two looks. One cut. The Pixie Crop

First sported by the glamorous Audrey Hepburn in the 60’s, this style is set for a big comeback in 2012. Brit actress Carey Mulligan is the latest celeb to be seen showing off this stunning yet accessible Pixie Crop look. It’s short enough to create the popular slick back look and long enough to style. Emma Watson brought this look to the forefront in 2011 and it looks like it’s here to stay.

This style works great if you have fine, medium or coarse hair. To achieve the slick back look, make sure your hair is clean to eliminate excess oil. Then comb your hair back with or without a side parting depending on how you like to play it. To finish, apply Design Line Volumizing Mousse from route to tip.

‘Posh Punk’

If you’re looking for a bold new look this is it. Made famous in the 70’s the ‘Punk’ look has been refreshed over the years. In the 80’s it was the Mohawk Punk, the 90’s Skater Punk, the 00’s Emo Punk and now in 2012 we have ‘Posh Punk’.

A bold style, this look works best with long hair as shown by Alice Dellal. To achieve this dramatic look, hair should be shaved to a grade II on one side, leaving long luscious locks on the other. Keep your hair one colour and add some glamour with accompanying highlights or low lights. Use DesignLine Figi Oil to keep your hair looking healthy and glossy and to create the perfect sophisticated rocky look.

90’s inspired Long-Short cut

We predict this short style with big volume and peek-a-boo fringe will be a high street hit this year. Think Princess Di meets Meg Ryan in the early 90’s.

The key to pulling this off is to meet the extreme with elegance. Hair should be above shoulder length and will require a choppy/layered cut. To finish, run fingers through your hair and use DesignLine Volumizing Spray to achieve that classic 90’s ‘Just stepped out of a salon’ look.

1920’s Waved Flapper Bob

This style is for those of you with short hair. Nicole Richie, Charlize Theron and Drew Barrymore have all opted for this style.

To create this look, give yourself a side parting leaving hair straight around the crown. Use a good pair of curling tongs and bobby pins with DesignLine Hairspray to style. Finally, finish with DesignLine Volumizing Spray for that ultra glam 1920’s inspired look.

Colour trends

If you’re looking to add a splash of colour to your hair here’s what we suggest will help you stand out from the crowd.

Blondes, 2012 is all about the muted sandy beige colour. To enhance your colour add lots of volume to your hair with a beautiful blow-dry.

For those of you with dark hair add a bit of drama! Move away from reds and go for deep violets, purples and inky blacks. These bold colours will work really well for those of you with shorter cuts.

So what do you think? Which of these styles do you love or loath? Let us know.
