Summer 16: The Pastel Update

Summer Pastels 1

Are you a fan of bright, fun hair colours? This summer, brights and pastels are still on trend –  but with a bit of a twist. When it comes to pastels, there’s two new updates this season. Leaving behind the brighter shades of last year, the new look is almost-natural or all-out grunge.

For the ‘barely there’ pastel look, mix and match across peach tones, silver, bronze metallics and cool mint for a blended look that’s almost natural but with a hint of ethereal. The key to this look is to blended various shades and colours, leaving that solid look behind for a more multidimensional blend of high and low lights, and even balayage and ombre looks. We love a bright blonde with painted in slices of peach and bronze to give a multi-dimensional blonde that’s still giving a strong nod to the pastel effect.

Summer pastels 3If you want warm, pink shades, take inspiration from Rita Ora’s pal Mary Charteris who has been pictured recently at Cannes and Glastonbury with a gorgeous blended look. Her mix of baby pink into orange-peach is the perfect way to update the pastel look for this Summer. With an almost see-through sheer shade of pink, her white blonde base still flashes through for an up-to-date take.

Want something darker and grungier for your look? You’ll love the murkier greys and purples that were big on the hair catwalks for this season. The colour that’s on everyone’s wishlist right now is a petrol toned blend of blues, greens and greys, blended seamlessly for a look that’s festival ready. Check out Cara Delevingne’s blue-filled braids at Glastonbury for inspiration, but take it further with a blend of balayaged similar shades. The effect gives an other-worldly shine and tons of movement.

So how do you get it for yourself? If you’re a colour addict, you’ll know that a blonde base is a must for unnatural colours – but what if you’re nowhere near a natural platinum? Your journey to blonde should always start in salon. We’ve all heard horror stories of home bleaching disasters, and they’re no urban myths. Do it safely and stylishly by speaking with a stylist. That means you won’t end up damaging your hair and having to revert  to brown, like so many have to. Once your blonde is there, we carry a unique range of pastel salon colours from Wella Instamatic. The best part? You can change up your look every time you colour with us, as these low-damage colouring formulas are semi-permanent.

Got something unique in mind for your colour update this season? Our stylists love colour and are always excited to offer something new for every budget. Pop into your local Supercuts salon today to find out how we can make your colour pop.
