From grown-up pastels to natural-looking shades, our Creative Director Kieron Fowles talks us through the key 2016 hair colours…
Pastel hair was a huge trend last year and will continue into 2016 but we’ll be leaving behind 2015’s sugary tones in favour of a chalkier, more pearlescent palette. Think super light, almost-blonde colouring. We’ll see more creative placements of pastel too – adding a few flashes of colour through a fringe or the face-framing layers is a great way to wear the trend. We have six pastel tones available in Supercuts, including blues, greens and pinks; and they’re semi-permanent so you’re free to try out the trend without having to commit to it. (It also means you can try out lots of different pastel shades too!)
Ice White & Grey
Stemming from the popularity of pastel hair colours, the granny chic trend is also sticking around with cool grey and ice white tones dominating. Add a few inky blue tones like Keke Palmer to keep your colour on point for 2016.
This is a perfect colour application for blondes and brunettes. Like the contouring makeup technique made famous by the Kardashians, ‘strobing’ is the clever placement of hair colour to enhance your natural tones and highlights. Look to Gigi Hadid and Perrie Edwards as prime examples. Their colour features lighter tones around the face and where the light naturally catches the hair to add depth. Balayage is the best technique to achieve this look, where colour is painted free-hand onto the hair. We love balayage because it’s super low maintenance and you don’t have to worry about your roots growing through!
Red is going low maintenance too, so swap fiery bold hues for an understated copper tone to create a more lived-in shade. Glossy finishes are making a comeback in favour of matte textures with this colour trend. Ask in salon about our glossing services to achieve that catwalk-worthy healthy looking finish.
If pastel colours aren’t wild enough for you, consider giving this vibrant colour trend a whirl, as seen at Haider Ackermann’s SS16 show. Best achieved with hair pieces, this ‘look at me’ trend works best when teamed with a strong, chunky cut to complement your bolder colour choice.
