The Brits is one event on the awards show calendar where the stars can let their style go wild, and we love seeing what they bring to the red carpet on the night. As far from the formal chic of the Oscars as it gets, it was a night ruled by big hair, bold colour and sultry beauty looks all round. Hardly surprising that we couldn’t get enough!
Our Edge team were tuned in to see one thing – the hair of course! And it wasn’t just spotting their favourites, of course, they saw the trends to watch and the ways to get a little VIP style of your own.
Victoria had an eye out for the ladies who chose to make an impact by wearing their hair down – “One of my favourite looks from the Brits had to be Rita Ora. She looked amazing trading her signature curls for beautiful sleek waves, with a deep side parting for added glamour. The contrast between her pale blonde, olive skin and bold yellow dress shows it’s all about getting the right shades to make every colour work for you.
“Performing with Rudimental, Ella Eyre’s amazing lioness-like curls with masses of volume and an ombré effect were a show-stopper for me, a total statement and perfect on-stage glamour! Meanwhile Jessie J wore a long black weave, which wasn’t as strong a look for me. Losing her pixie crop for the length isn’t making her stand out – I definitely prefer the shorter look.”
Meanwhile it was Lily Allen’s striking updo that had Shahnaz wowed – “I loved Lily Allen’s look last night! The high slicked-back ponytail, the dip dyed vibrant yellow and the blunt fringe? It all worked together perfectly to create a unique, striking and unforgettable look.” It caught Bradley‘s eye too, “Wow! I adored Lily’s sharp fringe and yellow and black ombre. Very personalised, as any colour and cut should be!”
They also saw some upcoming Spring trends in the hair of Ellie Goulding and Lorde, with Bradley saying “Ellie keeps true to her style, when it comes down to her amazing locks we see her wearing it natural, with a 1979 noir girl look. She adds just enough gutsy, textured finish to make it modern too. I think hair is going back to a natural look this season, with long hair, natural textures and soft movement hitting it big in the magazines, on catwalks and on the stars”. Shahnaz predicted big things from Lorde’s stylish example – “The late 80s, early 90s looks are definitely back, embracing big texture and hair that doesn’t need to be perfect to look fantastic. Lorde’s big, messy and wild texture is her signature, and one that’s going to be big in more ways than one for 2014!”
