MTV EMAs 2015

Last night saw the MTV Europe Music Awards 2015 kick off in Milan and it certainly didn’t disappoint! Our favourite Canadian pop star, Justin Bieber, was the clear winner on the night scooping five awards including Best Male, Best Look and Biggest Fans.

But this year’s EMAs weren’t all about the Biebs, with great performances put in by Ellie Goluding, James Bay and Jason Derulo while Ed Sheeran and Ruby Rose nailed hosting duties.

We’ve rounded up the best of the best when it comes to the night’s style. Check out our list of winners:

Best Colour: Ellie Goulding

Ellie debuted luminous orange locks at the awards. We know: orange isn’t a colour with many positive associations when it comes to hair but Ellie’s got this look spot on. The secret is to add in subtle flashes of muted colour rather than choosing an all-over bold shade. If you fancy trying this look yourself, please don’t try it at home or there’ll be plenty of tears! Pop into your local Supercuts instead and our stylists will be more than happy to discuss your options.

Best Updo: Hailey Baldwin

Hailey made school girl ponytails cool with her roughed-up style. The peekabo fringe and matte texture add edge to this classic style. Prep hair with plenty of texturising products at the roots (try EIMI Dry Me dry shampoo) and through the lengths (we love Designline Texture Tousle Flexible Finisher) for a similar effect.

Best Duo: Shay Mitchell and Ashley Benson

We love them on Pretty Little Liars and we loved them even more last night. Besties Shay and Ashley stole the spotlight as they took to the stage to present on award. Shay went for an ultra slick, voluminous quiff with that on-trend wet look finish. Steal her style by prepping damp hair with a volume-boosting product like Designline Root Boost before blow drying hair away from the face using a large barrel brush. Gently backcomb the top section of hair and smooth back and off the face. Work through chill*d shaper right from the roots to create the wet look shine.

Ashley opted for a softer, more ’70s-inspired style. This look works best with a centre parting and don’t forget the effortless tousles! Tong a few sections of hair using a specialist heated wand for beach waves like the ghd Curve Creative Curl Wand. Alternate the direction of your curls for a natural-looking finish and don’t forget to gently brush them out using a paddle brush to perfect Ashley’s laid-back glamour.

Best Host: Ruby Rose

Sorry Ed, this one goes to Ruby. Showing that short hair is totally versatile, we loved the incorporation of this season’s braiding trend into her tough, edgy look – proving that plaits can be cool!

Best Male: Justin Bieber

Of course, we couldn’t finish without mentioning the winner of “Best Look” himself. Justin added height to his style with a textured, modern quiff. Guys, if you’re listening: flexibility is the key to looking more like Bieber and less like Jedward. We recommend a styling with a reworkable clay or paste like Redken For Men Maneuver Wax.

Who stole the show for you? We’d love to hear your thoughts – tweet us!
