2016’s award season officially kicked off for us with the 42nd Annual People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday 6th January. Here’s who topped the style stakes for us…

julianne hough people's choice awards 2016

Julianne Hough rocked one of our favourite hairstyles for 2016: the super glossy samurai bun! We love this grown up take on the top knot. Get the look at home with our how-to guide.

Meghan Trainor dazzled in a glitzy LBD and equally glittering clutch bag. Her tousled ponytail is on trend for the new season too! To recreate the look, gently curl 4 inch sections of hair (working from the front to the back) using a tong like the ghd Curve Soft Curl Tong, add a little backcomb at the roots and scoop back into a low ponytail. Complete the look with a mist of shine spray for Meghan’s glossy finish.

katherine mcnamara people's choice awards 2016

Nothing screams “awards season” like elegant Hollywood curls and they don’t come more luscious than Katherine McNamara’s. The centre parting gave the style a modern twist. One reason we never get bored with this style is because it’s so simple to do at home! Follow our step-by-step guide and you’ll have curls to rival Katherine’s in no time.

pretty little liars people's choice awards 2016 shay mitchell ashley benson lucy hale troian bellisario

The Pretty Little Liars girls never fail to impress us on the red carpet and we love how different (but equally gorgeous) their hairstyle choices were last night. Ashley Benson followed Meghan’s lead with a classic ponytail but instead kept it super sleek at the roots (prep your roots with a control gel like EIMI Sculpt Force to achieve a similar look). Shay Mitchell went for a poker straight, high shine style – our must-have tool for this is ghd’s best-ever straightener, the ghd Platinum. See why we rate it here. Meanwhile, Lucy Hale looked effortlessly beautiful with a sophisticated, textured updo and Troian Bellisario went for a slicked back updo.

Their hairstyles may have been very different but aside from Troian who chose a pop of colour, the ladies all coordinated their outfits perfectly opting for striking black dresses. Shay’s is our favourite hands-down: look at that detailing on the slit!
