From curling tongs and straighteners to hairdyers and hot brushes, there are so many heat styling tools available to help you create whatever style takes your fancy! But with heat comes damage – that is unless you make sure your locks are well-protected from high temperatures.
You already know (hopefully!) the importance of a heat protect spray before blow drying, curling or straightening but if you use your electrical stylers on a regular basis (more than once a week), we’d definitely recommend adding a few nourishing and protective products to your haircare regime to keep your locks in tip top condition. Here’s a few of our heat styling must-haves:
Step One: Start your heat protection with your shampoo. The Matrix Total Results Heat Resist Shampoo will gently cleanse your hair and prepare it for styling, offering protection from heat of us to 232 degrees. Follow with the Matrix Total Results Heat Resist Conditioner on a regular basis.
Step Two: Once a week, swap your usual conditioner for an intensive hydrating mask to replenish any moisture that’s been stripped away by your favourite styler. The paraben-free Wella Professionals Elements Renewing Mask is a top pick among our stylists for helping to strengthen each strand for resilient, healthy-looking hair.
Step Three: A nourishing hair oil is an absolute must to keep your hair soft and supple. Run 2-3 drops of Redken Diamond Oil (also available for coarser hair types) through the mid-lengths and ends of towel-dried tresses to condition each strand and add a beautifully glossy finish.
Step Four: Before you blow dry, work a heat protect cream through your hair for best results. If you’re going straight, you can’t beat TIGI Bed Head Straighten Out which springs into action when it comes into contact with heat to give you a super-smooth, frizz-resistant finish. If you’re going to curl your hair, we love Paul Mitchell Super Sculpting Glaze which will add volume and give flexible hold to help your curls stay in place.
Step Five: Last but not least is your trusted heat protect spray. Our favourite is ghd Heat Protection Spray: mist over dry hair before styling. Finish off with a smoothing serum or firm hold spray to make sure your chosen style lasts as long as you do!
