This week marks the beginning of Freshers’ Week in the UK, as thousands of students around the country leave home, move into halls and start their courses at uni. Of course, this week involves getting to know your new flatmates, which often leads to a lot of partying. To avoid your parents calling you a doctor after your first FaceTime, here are our recommended beauty products to keep you looking as fresh as you’re acting.
1. Dry shampoo
All of the club nights, society fairs and induction sessions will leave you with little time for life’s luxuries – you know, like actually washing your hair. If you wake up with fifteen minutes to make it to your first lecture, a couple of spritzes of dry shampoo will at least stop your roots from looking as greasy as last night’s takeaway.
2. Semi-permanent hair colour
One thing that we can promise will happen during Freshers’ Week? Fancy dress. Whether it’s a UV rave or school disco night, it’s a good idea to have a few fancy dress ingredients ready to go. Hair chalk or coloured spray will always come in handy (and make your bedroom the most popular in the flat), so stock up on the Fudge Paintbox range.
3. Tangle Teezer
Fancy dress often means a fair amount of back combing – great for your look, bad for your hair the next morning as you try to brush/rip it out. We really recommend trying to get through Freshers’ with most of your hair in tact, so thankfully a Tangle Teezer can glide through the knots with ease.
4. A good makeup remover
To stop the wild nights out from taking too much of a toll on your skin, you should try to remember to take your makeup off after a night out. We know this can be a bit too much effort after 90p drinks, but something like Nouveau Lashes Eye Makeup Remover is a one-sweep wonder for getting even the most stubborn eye makeup off. This will also come in handy if your fancy dress efforts have involved some sort of animal and you don’t want to go to your first tutor meeting with whiskers.
5. Super-sized EVERYTHING
Once you’ve settled in after a few days and actually start practising hygiene again, you’ll soon realise that you need your beauty products to last. Buying bigger versions of the things you need will often work out as better value for money, and 2-in-1s or twin packs are even better. The Tween Duos from Bed Head contain two 750ml bottles that could even last you until your next student loan instalment. We love the Recovery Tween Duo for times when your hair needs a little TLC.
6. Anything that will make you look healthy
As we’ve stated, you don’t want your parents to see you looking like a zombie, so any products that give the illusion of health are a good idea. Illuminating mositurisers will add a glow to your skin that you can pretend is from drinking lots of water and getting your 8 hours. The Crystal Clear Skin Brightening Complex is perfect for this, and also contains anti-inflammatory ingredients that will take care of any skin breakouts. Also, if you’ve partied so hard that you haven’t actually seen daylight for a week, then a layer or two of self tan could be just what you need. If you’re a novice then we recommend the Fake Bake Gradual Tan, while tanning experts can get a last minute glow with the 60 Minute Self Tan Liquid. They’ll never know… maybe…
