Prom Hair Inspiration

Whether you’re looking for all-out-glamour or a subtly gorgeous ‘d0, deciding on the perfect hairstyle for prom can be almost as difficult as choosing your dress! Don’t just go for what your friends are choosing, think about what will suit your hair type and complement your dress to make sure you turn heads for all the right reasons come prom night. Not sure where to start? Have no fear! We’ve selected some of this year’s hottest prom hair ideas to get you feeling inspired:

The classic updo – It wouldn’t be prom without plenty of ultra-glam updos to rival a Disney princess! Incorporate a ’60s beehive or boho braids into your style to bring it bang up do date. If you’re going for something like this, we’d recommend popping into salon and letting one of our stylists work their magic so you get the perfect finish that will stay put all night.

Hollywood curls – Another prom classic: channel your inner A-Lister with some red carpet worthy curls. This look will work well with a strapless gown too as your loose locks won’t be hiding away any of that beautiful dress! Start by prepping damp tresses with Paul Mitchell Extra Body Sculpting Foam before blow drying smooth using a large barrel brush. Mist over some ghd Curl Hold Spray once hair is dry before using the ghd Curve Classic Wave Wand to curl 3-4 inch sections, only taking the want as high as your cheekbone for a more natural finish. Soften the curls by brushing through with a paddle brush before smoothing down flyaways with a small amount of serum and sealing in place with a mist of shine spray like TIGI Bed Head Headrush.

Side braid – If you want a more relaxed feel to your prom look, go for a side twist or braid – both are huge trends for SS15 too. Recreate Michelle Keegan’s beautiful braid from the BAFTA TV Awards by setting your hair in a side parting and plaiting loosely over to one side, letting a few strands fall loose as you go. For a more textured look, don’t wash your hair less than a day before styling and work through a texturising product like DESIGNLINE Texture Tousle Flexible Finisher for an effortless vibe.

Sleek ponytail – Whether you take it low and sophisticated like Kim Kardashian or sky-high and playful à la Beyoncé at the Met Gala, ponytails are a key trend for 2015. Keeping it smooth and sleek is the key to nailing this look so prep locks with a blow dry gel like Redken Velvet Gelatine before drying. For a low ponytail like Kim’s, pull hair back and secure at the nape of the neck. Run some straightening irons over the lengths and ends for a super-smooth finish.

For Beyoncé’s eye-catching style, gather hair on the top of your head and secure with a hair tie. Use the ghd Curve Soft Curl Tong to curl sections of the ponytail before breaking them up with your fingers for a softer finish. Work through a serum like DESIGNLINE Silk Drops to keep frizz at bay. To complete both looks, take a 2-3 inch section of hair from the bottom of your ponytail and wrap it around the base. Seal your style with a spritz of strong hold hairspray like Paul Mitchell Freeze & Shine Super Spray and get ready to dance the night away!
