Rain-proof hair

Now that autumn’s here and unexpected showers are even more likely, it’s time to get your rain-proof hairstyles sorted so your hair doesn’t get caught short should the heavens open!

The key to rain-proof hair is simplicity. A low-maintenance look will be easier to fix up after a downpour than one you’ve spent hours in the mirror perfecting (as gorgeous as it may look at the start!)

A good basis for rain-resistant hair is to prep with a frizz-fighting shampoo and conditioner. Fudge Smooth Shot Shampoo and Conditioner (£9.95 each, Supercuts) will help tame your tresses and keep them smooth.  When it comes to styling, there are a number of options so we asked Shahnaz from The Edge artistic team to share a few of her top tips:

“Plaits and twists in various styles are ideal for unpredictable weather, especially if you incorporate all of the hair – they’re pretty resilient once they’re in place and it means you won’t have to worry about post-rain frizz. Add a spritz of TIGI Bed Head Candy Fixations Sugar Shock Bodifying Sugar Spray (£12.95, Supercuts) to add texture to your braid and leave it smelling delicious!

Curly hair can be especially tricky in wet or humid weather so I would recommend washing and conditioning as normal before applying Redken Curvaceous Ringlet (£11.45, Supercuts) and Redken Wave Ahead mousse(£16.85, Supercuts) to define your curls and help them to hold their shape.

For an even simpler look, go for a classic ponytail. Work TIGI Bed Head Control Freak Serum (£13.95, Supercuts) through the lengths or your hair then slick back and secure at the base of the neck, or higher for a more dramatic finish.”

With these simple tricks, you can venture out rain or shine, confident your style will see you through whatever the weather!
