SS20 Hair Ideas: 3 Trends You Need To Try

Hair ideas Mark Fast show, Runway, Spring Summer 2020, London Fashion Week, UK - 13 Sep 2019

Whether you have short hair, long hair, afro hair or fine hair, you’ll always be able to find an A-lister or Influencer that’ll inspire your next cut or colour. We’ve listed our favourite hair ideas that you should try out in 2020 in this cute short edit.

With hair colourists and stylists at their fingertips, it’s no wonder we constantly look to celebs for hair inspiration. Going from bronde to rose gold in one day and then pulling out all the stops for an embellished updo or intricate braid on the red carpet is all in a day’s work.

Over the past 12 months, some of this era’s most iconic hair trends came back with a vengeance. Some of our fave go-tos were chunky highlights, colour panels, blunt bobs, chandelier layers, bedazzled hair clips and velvet headbands among a load of others. But with the dawn of a new decade, the current sought-after styles are set to undergo a serious shake-up.

Ahead, we give you 3 simple trend predictions and hair ideas we believe are going to go viral in 2020.

Hair Idea #1: The shattered bob

It’s hard to scroll through Instagram without seeing someone proudly sporting a sleek bob RN but for 2020, it looks like this 90s throwback could get a messy upgrade. The bob is most definitely a timeless classic wearable by all; a haircut that keeps reoccurring on catwalks, red carpets and high streets alike. We believe 2020 will absolutely make space for the bob haircut, but it’ll present itself in a different way. The sharp bob we’ve become so used to seeing, will morph into a jagged, edgy and shaggier style.  Otherwise known as the ‘shattered bob’, we are ALL for getting a little messy and adding in those soft layers to give our look a sense of attitude. The added movement you’ll find in this cut is just as edgy as it is sexy.

What you’ll need for this style:

Swap the smoothing spray for something that’ll add texture to the hair and emphasize those layers.

Hair Idea #2: Contrasting colour panels

If you keep your ear to the ground when it comes to trending hair colours, then you might have spotted some pretty striking colour combos doing the rounds on Instagram. Namely chunky, face-framing streaks. The mounting presence of contrasting colourways is something we’re definitely huge, huge, HUGE fans of. Another fan of this look is influencer and Scottish beauty Jamie Genevieve. She went back to her roots, quite literally, and took her blonde locks to a gorgeously glossy dark brown (almost black) shade. She combined this with a striking, chunky platinum blonde section which sits proudly over on one side of her hairline. No blending required here. Just plenty of cool-girl vibes.

What you’ll need for this style:

Aside from colour application from the salon experts (that’s us, by the way), you’ll need to keep your bottle of silver shampoo. Just because the majority of your hair is now dark, it doesn’t mean you should stop paying attention to your panel of blonde, no matter how small it is. Make sure your blonde streak stays looking luminous and cool-toned, as that’s how you’ll make an impact – with a sharp contrast.

Hair Idea #3: Artisan Accessories

From pearlescent hair clips and patterned scrunchies to velvet padded headbands and rhinestone encrusted hair slides, we’ve proudly worn them all. The last year has seen an obsession with adding luxurious looking sparkly things to our hair, but our stylists say the trend is set to become much more minimal and rustic. The trick to 2020 accessorizing is to avoid things that could pass as dowdy or even ‘unfashionable’. It’s time to make way for more artisanal, very ‘cool’ looking and almost homemade accessories.

What you’ll need for this style:

Think along the lines of stainless steel or aluminium clips and pins that seem like simplistic jewellery. Or simple pearl pins that creatively adorn a hairstyle. We’ve even seen pieces that resemble paper clips and shoe buckles. 2020 is all about kick starting a new decade with ultra-modern, contemporary and sophisticated accessorizing.
