We’re pledging, and you can too!

3 pledges you can make this Earth Day

We are on a mission to help reduce plastic from our environment and that’s why we’ve exclusively partnered with weDo/ professionals and Plastic Bank on their pledge – from April 22nd 2021 for 30 days, Supercuts will match the weDo/ contribution to Plastic Bank. For every 1 weDo/ bottle sold online at Supercuts, 16 items of plastic rubbish will be collected and removed from our environment and oceans! The UK goal is to remove 5 million plastics from the environment by the end of May.

weDo/ believes that by working together we can make a difference, and Earth Day is the perfect day to start making those small changes that will help make a difference. So we wanted to let people know about our pledge partnership, but also bring you some simple pledge ideas of your own, that are easy to incorporate into everyday life and will have a positive impact on the environment.

What is Earth Day?

Earth Day, on 22nd April this year, is a day dedicated to taking action and fighting for a healthier environment and our planet.

How to make a positive change this Earth Day and beyond

The little things add up when it comes to making a positive impact on the environment. Here are some things you can do to make a difference:

1. Lower your plastic consumption

Plastic packaging is everywhere – over 300 million tons of it is produced every year, and more than 8 million tons of it ends up in the ocean1. You can reduce your plastic consumption buy buying and using reusable shopping bags and water bottles or buying loose fruit and veg at the shops instead of pre-packaged.

2. Be more water conscious

It’s easy to get carried away lathering our hair up in the shower, but by limiting your shower time you’ll save water and money on your water bill – a double whammy! Put your favourite song on and when it ends, your time is up! Also, make sure you turn the tap off properly when you’re not using it, for example while cleaning your teeth or doing the washing up.

3. Get up-cycling

Up-cycling is a fantastic way to reuse items that would otherwise be thrown away and a chance for you to get creative. Use empty jars or bottles to make new vases or update your bed side table with a coat of paint rather than replacing it. This way you save yourself some money, extend the products life and benefit the environment all in one.
