SS14 Trends – Braidy Bunch

An updo never goes out of style and the perfect look for the summer months is a pretty plaited hairstyle inspired by the likes of Taylor Swift or Jennifer Lawrence. Braids are great for all occasions from a day at the beach, to a summer evening at a cocktail bar or even your best friend’s wedding.

Here, Guy Cammarano, creative director at Supercuts, reveals how to create these beautiful braided styles:

Step 1

Prepare hair with a flexible hold style spray such as Wella Professionals Flexible Finish (£12.20, Supercuts) and volumising powder like Sebastian Drynamic (£20, Supercuts) at the roots to provide texture which will help make the hair more malleable. Then create a side parting in your desired position.

Step 2

Next, take a section around two-inches wide and split into three sections ready to braid. Plait the hair to the head in a ‘French plait’ style to anchor the braid to the head. Keep the plait loose for a laid-back beachy feel and follow the natural line behind your ear round to the nape of the neck.

Step 3

When you reach the nape of the neck, take the remaining length of hair, twist and tuck it under the base of the braid creating a small knot bun.

Step 4

Secure the bun with a few bobby pins and make sure the style stays in place from the beach to the bar with a generous spritz of extra-hold hairspray like Wella Professionals Super Set (£12.20, Supercuts).
